  1. I think that Ben's father can understand him, Nettie and Harrison, because he wouldn’t be trying to make all of those movement with his eyes and hands. I think that he is getting better because now I think that he understands what his children are telling him.

    1. I think that he has always been able to understand them he just didn't know how to answer them.

  2. I think Father can understand them because he doesn’t blink rapidly when someone said anything. It said at the beginning of chapter 12, “It became obvious that Father was responding in his one fashion.” He also lifted his hand when Ben talked about the barn.

    2. I agree with you because a lot people read with their eyes. Palsy usually takes away hearing

  3. I think Father does not understand with his ears. I think he understands with his eyes. In the book it says that Father lost his hearing along with palsy. He answers yes or no questions with his eyes so he might read with his eyes to

  4. I think father understands what he hears. I think this because when Ben asked him if it was a yes then blink his eyes and he did. I think this means that he can hear them because he said yes to his question.

  5. I think Ben’s father can hear him because whenever Ben asks Father a question his father answers by staring for no and blinking or shutting his eyes for yes.

  7. I think that father really is hearing them because right after they ask a question he responds. Like when Ben asked him how important the barn was to him he raised his hand.

  11. I think that Father can understand everything that they say. I think that he has always been able to understand what was going on he just didn't know how to answer them until Ben comes along. I think he understands what they are saying because when Ben asks him questions he answers with yes (eye blinks) or no (eyes wide).
When Ben asks him how important the barn is to him he answers numerous times with yes or no. Finally after Ben has been yelling at him for a long time Father forces himself to lift his arm, to show how important the barn is to him. Father understood what Ben was asking him, and he responded to Ben with an answer more detailed then a simple yes or no.

  12. I think Father can answer yes or no questions because when Ben told father to blink if he knew Nittie he blinked. If that was a coincidence that he blinked when Ben asked him.It would be pretty crazy and Ben asked him a lot of yes or no questions and he would either blink yes or stare no.Some of the questions ben already knew the answer to and father would answer the answer that someone else told him.For example Nettie told him father was planning to build a barn and when Ben asked Father he answerd yes that he was planning to build a barn.

  13. Yes, I do believe that Father can understand what they ask. I believe this because: he does not blink unless they ask him a question. So when he does blink they know and he knows that he is answering a question.

  14. I think he does understand them because in chapter three he moved his hand and tried to talk. Also he blinks yes.

  17. I think father is not understanding what Ben Harrison and Nettie are saying because Ben is like blink if yes don't blink if no and and he has only been blinking so i think that he has not been understanding what Ben Nettie and Harrison are saying.

  19. I think father is not understanding what ben harrison and nettie are saying because ben is like blink if yes don't blink if no and and he has only been blinking so i think that he has not been understanding what ben nettie and harrison are saying. father is not understanding because palsy it takes away some of your hearing so he can’t hear good it hazy it fades out. It mite be a coincidence that he is blinking cause his eyes are dry.
